This mama bluebird is a trooper. She is mothering her second brood of the season and she goes non-stop. In this photo, she was working with a newly fledged cowbird who is learning how to exist on his own. She loves him as one of her own. We can learn some valuable lessons from birds if we take the time.

I titled this "Be Content Where You Are" because seeing this little Eastern Phoebe happily hopping around these dying (or dead) plants reminded me that there are still good things around us even when we think our viewpoint is drab. If nothing else, this little Phoebe had some pretty great camo going on with the gray/brown colors of has-been plants. Look for the positive where you are!
As fun as it is to pretend this mourning dove and American robin were high-fiving, the reality behind it is quite the opposite. These two were in a scuffle over control of this tree branch. Quite an interesting event to witness.

If you've never had the opportunity to see a European Starling in its Fall plumage, let me tell you, it's stunning! They lose these white feather tips (wear molt) by the time Spring rolls around. But this bird is a sight to see when in full sunlight!

Oh my heart! Downy woodpeckers are among my most favorite birds. They're just so unassuming, mild tempered, and so darn cute! Sad story, a male downy met its end when it collided with a window at my house recently. I tried my usual collision protocol with him, but it's likely he broke his neck upon impact. While so sad about the loss, a bright spot appeared later that same day when a fledgling downy showed up with a mama downy at one of my feeders!!! Happy to know another downy generation is on its way up!
